Christmas in the Peak District

Cozy fires, cream tea, and English Christmas charm

The kind of trip where the only thing on your to-do list is showing up and slowing down.

About this trip

Somewhere between a holiday and a period drama — but with better food and central heat.

We’ll wander through Christmas markets, stroll the grounds of Chatsworth (think Pride and Prejudice), and eat well - very well. Expect crackling fires, countryside charm, lovely humans, and a surprise or two.

A trip for anyone who’s dreamed of experiencing English Christmas magic— and a few days where someone else handles the details.

  • Arrival and Cozy Welcome

Welcome to the Peak District—where the sheep outnumber people and the air smells like fireplaces and Christmastime. Jane Austen might not recognize the cars, but everything else? Still as it should be.

    • You’ll be picked up in central Manchester and driven in a luxury Mercedes Sprinter to Wildhive Callow Hall, our woodland sanctuary for the next few days. Think: cozy elegance and rooms plucked out of an English country magazine.

    • Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a proper cream tea: warm scones, local jam, lemon curd, and your choice of tea or coffee. Bliss, basically.

    • Settle into your room, wander the grounds, or just collapse into comfort—we’ve got you.

    • That evening, we gather for a seasonal, candlelit welcome dinner on site. Local produce and thoughtful flavors shine. You don’t lift a finger (except to lift a glass).

Cream tea, transfers, and Welcome Dinner included

  • The one where we wear wool and wander through old-money splendor.

    • Breakfast at Callow Hall
Strong coffee. Warm pastries. Eggs as you like them. No stress.

    • Late Morning: Leisurely Start + Optional Spa Treatment
You do you: enjoy a facial, sip a tea by the fire, take a book to a window seat.

    • Midday: Depart for Chatsworth House
Your private driver will take you through winding country roads toward one of England’s most iconic estates (yes — that one where Keira Knightley did some of her best brooding).

We’ll arrive with plenty of time to explore the house and grounds at your own pace. As the light fades (early this time of year), the estate transforms — twinkling, golden, and fully in its holiday glory. The Christmas market and estate have plenty of food options, from warm and hearty to festive and sweet. Stay, eat, wander some more. There’s mulled wine with your name on it.

    • Included is also the iconic Chatsworth Christmas Market
Mince pies. Artisan everything. Live music. All I’m saying is come hungry and be prepared to shop.

      Breakfast included

  • A slow morning in the countryside, a tart in Bakewell, and a stop for gelato — yes, in December. No, I won’t be taking questions.

    • Morning: Slow Breakfast + Guided Winter Walk (~1.5 hrs)
Ease into the day with breakfast at the hotel — coffee, cozy vibes, whatever you need to feel human again. Your local guide (charming, full of stories) leads you on a soul-stirring ramble—short enough to warm your bones, long enough to earn a scone.

    • Late Morning: Bakewell. Explore the charming town of Bakewell (known for the famous Bakewell tart) and Jane Austen’s inspiration for the village of Lambton. There are sites, shops, and plenty of opportunities to snag small treasures.

    • Artisanal Gelato Stop: Yes, we’re stopping for gelato. Yes, it’s December. No, I won’t apologize. This local dairy makes award-winning flavors that are swoony, seasonal, and worth it.

    • Evening: Your Time
Dinner is up to you tonight. Stay in for a cozy meal at the hotel or head into nearby Ashbourne. We’ll have a short list of great options if you want to venture out.

    Breakfast and lunch included

  • A little market magic, a watercolor moment (yes, you can), and a final dinner that might make you emotional. Sorry.

    • Breakfast - Start the day with breakfast at the house — something warm & comforting.

    • Morning: Depart for Haddon Hall + Christmas Market
A lesser-known gem with a storied past - 900 years of it. Think tapestries, roaring fires, and seriously magical market stalls. (Jane Eyre and other movies/TV shows have been filmed here too.) *Eat at the café or follow your nose to the food stalls. Either way, you’ll be stuffed.

    • Afternoon: Ink & Watercolor Workshop (~2 hrs)
Head back to the hotel for a cozy creative class with a local artist. Leave with a keepsake. All supplies provided. No art skills required.

    • Free Time
Use the spa. Wrap a gift or two. Stare out a window dramatically. Journal. Or nap under a blanket that you want (but shouldn’t) stuff into your suitcase.

    • Farewell Dinner:
One final night to gather around the table, toast to new friends, and savor a slow, exquisite meal.
      Breakfast/Dinner included

  • Early departures or one last linger — however you go, you leave a little more alive.

We’ll say goodbye to the countryside and head back to Manchester, arriving mid-morning for those with flights later in the day.

Need to head out earlier? Or staying on a bit longer?
Just let us know ahead of time and we’ll help coordinate with the hotel or arrange a taxi for you.

  • Travel Note: New UK Entry Requirement
Starting in 2025, U.S. travelers will need to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before entering the UK.

Payments & Policies

  • This trip is nonrefundable, for any reason.
(We know—no one likes fine print. But our partners and accommodations require upfront commitments, and we honor those relationships.)

  • We highly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment—especially for things like flight delays, cancellations, illness, or unexpected life detours.

→ Look for a “cancel for any reason” policy if you want maximum flexibility. Sites like Squaremouth can be helpful to compare different providers.

  • Manchester (MAN) – Closest major airport

  • or London (LHR or LGW) – If you want to make a longer trip of it

From London:
